Donor Highlight: Alberto Milo, Jr.

Meet Alberto Milo, Jr., who leads Related Urban Development Group (RUDG), the affordable housing division of Related Group, the nation's top real estate development company. He oversees design, construction, financing, and budgeting for RUDG's portfolio, comprising public, affordable, workforce, and mixed-income housing. Under his leadership, RUDG has built and rehabilitated over 5,700 units in Florida, totaling $1.5 billion. Alberto is a recognized leader in his field, shaping conversations on the need for affordable housing solutions.

Over the past four years, Alberto has been a generous and critical supporter of Bakehouse. In addition to his family and RUDG’s philanthropy, Alberto has acquired works from Bakehouse artists for both larger housing projects and his personal collection.

Why is it important to support artists and the organizations that serve them?

Most artists struggle to earn a steady stream of income; however, they have a passion for their craft. Supporting organizations like Bakehouse, that provide affordable studio spaces to artists who remain dedicated to continuing their art-practice, is meeting a great demand within the Miami art community.  

What inspires you about Bakehouse?

It’s inspiring that Bakehouse has been supporting artists in the Wynwood neighborhood for several decades.

Why should someone donate to Bakehouse?

To a certain extent, you can say that Bakehouse was the spark that ignited the arts movement in Wynwood many years ago. This organization has been a mainstay in the neighborhood and is a great community asset that is worth donating to.

Where would you like to see Bakehouse in three years?

It would be good to see Bakehouse well underway in the construction of their campus within the next three years.

What is your wish for Bakehouse as it embarks on its next generation for 21st-century artmaking?

I hope that Bakehouse can generate the funding necessary to restore the historic building and build out their campus to include housing options for their artists and the community at large. That will allow them to continue to serve the community for many years to come.
